At the southernmost point of Canada, you’ll find 10,000 acres of idyllic vineyards, farms, beaches, parks and forests.
Over half of America’s 50 states are north of Pelee Island, including Northern California. It shares the same latitude as some of the most prestigious wine regions of the world (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany and France). The main road stretches around the perimeter of the island and provides an excellent route to cycle or walk. If you plan to stay the night while visiting our Pelee Island Pavilion, there are a number of beautiful inns/bed & breakfasts to accommodate you.
Pelee Island is home to some of the rarest natural habitat in Canada. Over 10,000 unique species inhabit Pelee Island, including the Honey Locust, Hop Tree, Prickly Pear Cactus and Sassafras. Birders witness seasonal migrations of hundreds of species. Foxes and coyotes call the island their home as do rare snakes such as the Blue Racer. The island also offers a host of recreational activities, including fishing, hiking and biking. You can visit the Vin Villa ruins; the historic remains of Canada’s first commercial winery. Stop at Lighthouse Point and Fish Point or drive along one of the amazing dykes that crisscross the island. The Heritage Centre located on the west dock documents the history of the hundreds of shipwrecks in Lake Erie’s shallow waters during storms and naval battles. There’s also an exciting exhibit on Al Capone and his Rum Runners who used Pelee Island as a point of embarkation to Ohio during Prohibition.

We recognize and respect the First Nations who are stewards of the land and waters of Turtle Island and who have embraced this stewardship since time immemorial. Our Pelee Island Pavilion is the hub of activity on the island during the spring, summer and fall. Tour the Pavilion grounds and learn the history of Pelee Island and Pelee Island Winery. The wine appreciation seminar is known as the ‘Vine to Wine’ process. You’ll get an inside look at the process of growing grapes and making wine, including the evolution of winemaking equipment throughout history (such as our antique European grape press). You’ll also learn about the fine art of making corks, and why a good cork is so important to great wine. The tour is highlighted by a video presentation in our theatre room. Finally, the tasting room provides guests with the opportunity to appreciate some of our best vintages. Your tour includes wine tasting and complimentary Pelee Island Winery tasting glass. Afterward, guests are invited to browse our gift shop where they can purchase gift baskets and other unique items.
For those looking to enjoy a little bit of ‘Island Time’, relax in our outdoor wine garden with a glass of wine surrounded by vineyards overlooking Lake Erie. Light snacks, wood fired pizza and charcuterie available at our Deli Hut pair nicely with your wine of choice while you enjoy live entertainment every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
